The Swift Current Hobby, Craft and Gun Show is celebrating a pair of milestones during 2017.
The spring show has been running for four decades, and the addition of a fall show in 2007 means the upcoming show in November will mark the 50th time a Hobby, Craft and Gun Show has been hosted in Swift Current.
Show organizer Henry Banman was invited to the March 27 Swift Current City Council meeting to share additional details of his April 1 and April 2 event.
“This is our 40th annual, we started 40 years ago. And then nine years ago we started with doing another show in the fall of the year, which makes this our 49th show, and our November show will be the 50th show that we have done,” Banman said.
“It brings a lot of people to the City of Swift Current. We have been attracting vendors from the four western provinces for about 35 of these 40 years.”
This weekend’s event has attracted 75 vendors, who will be displaying items spread out over 235 tables.
Banman notes that the show attracts visitors from a wide distance, which helps provide an economic boost around the community.
“The economic spin that we know that this does for the City of Swift Current is the motels do very, very well, the restaurants do very, very well, the store purchases too.”
This weekend’s show runs on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
And, once the 49th show is wrapped up, Banman is looking forward to getting plans in place for the 50th show he has hosted.
“We’ve very much looking forward to our golden anniversary show which will be the first weekend in November this year.”
