The Swift Current 11U AAA 57’s captured the championship title at the annual Regina Legasse tournament over the May long weekend, marking the first time since 2015 that a team from Swift Current has won the event.
The 57’s started the tournament in the round-robin stage, going 1-1-1. Despite this beginning, they gained momentum heading into the semi-finals against the Estevan Brewers. The semi-final match saw an explosive offensive display from the 57’s, who secured a convincing 15-5 victory. Avery Christianson and Blake Reiter were standout performers, each launching home runs out of the park to bolster their team’s lead. Christianson also delivered a strong performance on the mound, with Jayce Kantrud stepping in to close the game and secure the win.
In the final, the 57’s faced the Regina Wolf Pack, a team that had bested them in round-robin play. However, the 57’s were undeterred and ready for redemption. In a thrilling contest, the 57’s emerged victorious with a 14-8 win. Jaden Gader hit a grand-slam home run that significantly contributed to the team’s offensive surge. Cord Fry started on the mound, pitching a solid three innings, and Jace Powell closed the game to ensure the victory.
