The Swift Current Broncos made a pair of trades on June 8 that resulted in veteran defensemen Kayd Ruedig returning to Swift Current.
The Broncos opened the day by sending a 2027 second-round pick in the WHL Prospects Draft and a 2030 sixth-round pick to the Wenatchee Wild for a 2026 first-round pick in the CHL Import Draft.
The Broncos then sent their own pick in the first round of the 2026 Import Draft to acquire Ruedig from the Everett Silvertips. The Humboldt product spent the 2023-24 season with the Swift Current Home Hardware U18 AAA Legionnaires.
The 2007-born defenseman played for three different teams this past season. He began the season with the Portland Winterhawks and then was traded to Kamloops, before being traded to the Everett Silvertips, where he won the Western Hockey League championship. He finished the regular season with 16 goals and 20 assists in 66 regular season games.
The 5’11” defensemen had two goals and four assists in 17 playoff outings. He added one goal and two assists in five games at the Memorial Cup.
Ruedig now has 58 points and 105 penalty minutes in 132 regular season WHL games to go along with 34 games of WHL playoff experience.
“As a former Legionnaire, we are super excited to welcome Kayd back to Swift Current. Kayd brings welcomed mobility and transition offense to our blue line. He also packs 34 games of WHL playoff experience, five Memorial Cup games, and a league championship ring. That experience will be super valuable in our room as we continue to improve everyday,” said Broncos General Manager and Head Coach Travis Crickard.
