Forge teams set for first PSL matches in Swift Current

Swift Current will be the site of top-flight youth soccer for the first time in over a decade when they host Provincial Soccer League games on Saturday and Sunday.

The Swift Current Soccer Association and Forge FC will be hosting U13, U15, and U17 matches for the first time since Forge FC was established in 2022. Forge FC teams are comprised of players from Moose Jaw, Swift Current, Weyburn, and Yorkton. To host PSL matches, Canada Soccer requires clubs to hold a MA 1 license, a feat recently accomplished by the SCSA.

“We are thrilled to be hosting opening weekend PSL soccer in our community. Our club has worked hard to achieve our MA1 license and in turn, bring this fantastic opportunity to host high quality, competitive soccer in our community,” stated SCSA President, Danielle Ferguson. “Soccer is currently the fastest growing sport in Canada and with our country set to co-host the FIFA World Cup this summer, our timing to bring the highest level of soccer in Saskatchewan to our local pitches is so exciting.”

A total of five PSL matches will be played at two fields in Swift Current this weekend.

The U13 Forge FC Girls will face Regina’s FCR Bluestars on Saturday at 1:10 p.m. at Riverside Field. They will also host Regina’s QC United on Sunday at 11:10 a.m. at Riverside Field.

The team features the SCSA’s Brooke Langager, Emberly Jacobson, Isley Ostrander, Lucy Casselman, Stevie Pritchard, as well as affiliate players Claire Muchembe, Stella Thomson, and Zoey Graham. They are coached by Swift Current’s Alex Casselman and Keleah Ostrander.

The Forge FC U15 Boys will host the Saskatoon Alliance Black on Saturday at 3:15 p.m. at OM Irwin School Field. They also face Saskatoon Alliance Blue on Sunday at 3:15 p.m.

The U15 Boys feature Swift Current’s Ari Parmar, Blayse Janzen, Finn Ostander, Ihor Hrek, and affiliate player Colter Telke. They are coached by Swift Current’s Mike Gurski and Griffin Striker.

The U17 Boys will face QC United on Sunday at 1:15 p.m. at Irwin Field. They feature locals Amanti Eticha, Camden Newton, Cole Ferguson, Ethan Butterworth, Nathan Odiyo, and Nick Munzara. They are coached by SCSA Technical Director Harold Plata.

Forge FC will also be holding a 50/50 draw and hosting a concession to help offset team costs for the season.

“We love that we have opportunity for local kids to play high quality soccer in front of their supportive fans. We understand that in the case of U13 girls it has been over 13 years since a PSL game was played in Swift Current,” stated Ferguson, “We want all to come spend some time at our local pitches and enjoy our beautiful game. It is set to be an exciting weekend.”
