14U SunDogs win Sask Cup silver

The Swift Current 14U Black Female Junior SunDogs placed second at Sask Cup 1 this past weekend in Saskatoon.

The SunDogs finished 3-1 in the round robin on Saturday. They opened up pool play with a loss to the Estevan Extreme Storm (19-25, 17-25). They went on to post wins over Regina QCVC (25-21, 25-16), Yorkton Blitz Lightning (25-11, 25-14), and the Esterhazy Heat (25-14, 25-12) to end up second in their pool.

They finished off the day with a win over the Oxbow Black Knights (25-19, 25-18) in their playoff crossover match.

On Sunday, the SunDogs faced off against last year’s provincial 13U champs Prince Albert Toppers En Fuego in the quarter-finals, and in a thrilling three set match came away with the victory (24-26, 26-24, 17-15) to move onto the semi-finals.

In the semi-finals they defeated the Wheatland Attack (25-20, 25-21) before falling to the Saskatoon Huskies in the finals in straight sets (11-25, 22-25).

The 14U SunDogs are coached by Darren Lehmann, Terry Lawrence and Shawn Fraser and will be in action again February 22-23 at Sask Cup 2.

The 15U Female Junior SunDogs won silver at the Moose Jaw Thunder Creek Tournament as well. They won their first five matches and then lost in the final to a team from Manitoba at the 22-team event.
