Chinook School Division Sports Report – February 2

Now that exam week is done, there is one set of regularly scheduled senior basketball league games left before playoffs. The standings have not changed since before exams.  On February 4, Gull Lake boys and Swift Current girls are in Maple Creek. Swift Current boys will be in Vanguard and Shaunavon boys in Frontier. Shaunavon girls will travel to Maple Creek. There is also one make-up game to be played: Vanguard vs Maple Creek (scheduled for Feb. 6).

These final games will determine playoff positions for the league.  February 11 semi finals (#4 at #1, #3 at #2). Final on Tuesday, February 25.

In our junior league, there were a couple of make-up games played this past week.  Herbert boys won over Wymark boys.  Waldeck girls won 52-50 over Shaunavon girls.

Junior league regular season games on February 6:  Swift Current hosts Shaunavon boys and Waldeck girls.  Maple Creek boys host Herbert and Shaunavon girls host Maple Creek.  Herbert boys and Wymark have rescheduled their final league match up to February 4. 

As in the seniors, the junior standings are very close. There is one last set of regular season games on February 13, before the semifinals on Wednesday, February 26 (#4 at #1, #3 at #2). The final is slated for Thursday, February 27.

SWAC Senior Sectional Curling results:

Our only senior girls curling team in the South West is from Fox Valley School (Rory Schneider, Mikayla Herter, Abbie Hoffart, Talyssa Herter). They will advance straight to SHSAA Regionals.


Mixed #1 seed: Val Marie (Alex Waldner, McKenna Legault, Jayne Hanson, Madison Stevens).

Mixed #2 seed: Shaunavon (Auburn Thienes, Olivia Johnston Rylan Galey, Dylan Heikkila, Tanner Davies).

Boys #1 seed: Frontier (Chase Jarman, Blake Dumontel, Rylan Miller, Torin Pegg).


Boys #1 seed: Hazlet (Kylon PawluckAnderson, Tyson Anderson, Cole Sletten, Euan Brown).

Boys #2 seed: Fox Valley (Cooper Schneider, Sam Ganert, Mathew Anton, Nolan Herter).

Boys #3 seed: Fox Valley (Colby Moir, Cebastian Conkin, Jacob Weiss, Ross Wiggins).

Mixed #1 seed: Maple Creek (Luke Jamieson, Ashley Kramer, Jaron Scribner, Kathleen Portz).

Mixed #2: not attending SWAC districts: Leader (Kelsey Klippert, Mason Feiffer, Becca Marshall, Jacob Kobelsky).


Boys #1 seed: SCCHS (Beau Cornelson, Dusty Cherpin, Carson Funk, Zander Rommelaire, Daymon Haroldson).

Boys #2 seed: SCCHS (Declan Poppy, Ty Kornfeld, J.J. Zummack, Adam Watson).

Boys #3 seed: Gull Lake (Brayden Myers, Connor Murray, Janzen Sommer, Tyson Myers).

Mixed #1 seed: SCCHS (Rachel Schlechter, Cole Wiebe, Kassidy Painchaud, Colby Latimer).

Mixed #2 seed: Pontiex (Rhett Lacher, Landyn Lacher, Rhett Franklin, Kayla Walters, Tia Gorrill).

Mixed #3 seed:  SCCHS (Jenna Sloman, Chance Peters, Sydney Haroldson, Austin Urbanoski, Logan Lenz).

The SWAC Senior District Championship will be in Leader on February 7-8.

Junior curling sectionals take place only on Saturday, February 8 (Cypress Hills in Maple Creek, Rolling Hills in Swift Current, Whitemud in Val Marie).  Draws have been sent to schools.  The Junior SWAC District Championship is on February 28-29 in Eastend/Consul.
