Swift Current’s Brody Alexandre is one of 32 players invited to the Junior National Team’s annual Spring Training Camp in St. Petersburg, Florida from March 6-14.
The camp will include daily workouts, a professional schedule against minor league prospects from the Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies, and Toronto Blue Jays. The team will face a split squad of the Toronto Blue Jays at TD Park in Dunedin on March 12.
Alexandre, 17, is the only Saskatchewan product named to the 32-man roster. The 6’2’’ left-handed batter is listed as a first and third baseman. He represented Saskatchewan at the Canada Cup last summer and most recently suited up at Tournament 12 at Rogers Centre in Toronto.
Alexandre hit .330 with a .482 on-base percentage for the Swift Current 57’s in the Saskatchewan Premier U18 AAA Baseball League last summer. He added 28 runs batted in, 32 runs scored, two home runs, and eight stolen bases in 34 league games.
He also appeared in two Western Canada Baseball League games with the Swift Current 57’s and had a hit against the Yorkton Cardinals at Mitchell Field on July 2.
The spring training camp is the first of four camps this season as the Junior National Team prepares for the COPABE U18 Pan Am Championship that is a qualifying event for the 2021 WBSC U18 Baseball World Cup.
