A series opening overtime loss has put the Swift Current Pure Chem Broncos into a must win situation in their playoff series with the Regina Aces.
Regina scored the game winning goal 2:02 into overtime to give the host Aces a 3-2 win over the Broncos on Thursday night. The Aces lead the best-of-three Saskatchewan Bantam AA Hockey League semi final series one game to none.
After a scoreless opening period, Rhett Dekowny staked the Broncos to a 1-0 lead at the 4:23 of the middle period when he scored a power play goal, with assists to Colton Leahy and Rylan Silzer.
Regina stormed back to tie the game five minutes into the third period, and they opened a 2-1 advantage with a power play goal with 7:45 left in regulation.
Swift Current forced the extra session when regular season team point leader Kalan Lind scored with 4:33 left in the third period, with assists from Mckale Paul and Silzer.
Swift Current net minder Rylan Hildebrand stopped 28 of 31 shots in the defeat.
The Broncos will be on home ice Sunday in an attempt to force a third and deciding game. Puck drop is at 4:45 p.m. at Fairview West. If necessary a Game Three would go Monday in Regina.
The semi final playoff series features two teams separated by just two points after a 31 game regular season. Regina was second in the South Division with a 19-11-0-1 record, while Swift Current placed fourth at 18-12-0-1.
