SWAC SENIOR CURLING RESULTS

Senior Sectional Playoffs were held on Feb 1-2. ‘A’ side and ‘B’ side champions, from each sectional, advance to the SWAC District competition in Val Marie (February 8th/9th).

Fox Valley was the host site for the Cypress Hills section championship. Maple Creek girls (Morgan Robinson, Kathleen Portz, Grace Ungrin, Louise Parsonage, coach Holly Jamieson,) automatically advance to districts, along with the boys champion from Fox Valley (Jordan Anton, Mathew Anton, Samuel Ganert, Ross Wiggins, coach Steve Anton), who defeated Hazlet boys to finish in first place.

In the mixed competition, Maple Creek mixed (Janae Wilson, Luke Jamieson, Ashley Kramer, Zachary Guckert, coach Jocelyn Wilson) won the A side and Leader won the B side. Leader is unable to attend the SWAC Championship, so the Fox Valley mixed team will compete in their place (Fox Valley had played in the B final).

The Rolling Hills curling teams met in Ponteix to decide who would advance to districts. SCCHS girls (Jenna Sloman, Kassidy Painchaud, Marissa Moberg, Sydney Haroldson, coach Ron Bailey) won the championship defeating the Gull Lake girls.

The Gull Lake mixed team (Tyson Myers, Brayden Myers, Jewelya Murray, Lisa To, Coach Kelsey Waker) defeated the Ponteix mixed team to place first.

The SCCHS Lauchter team (Theo Lautsch, Grady Rogers, Tanner Ewert, Michael Orthner, coach Ron Bailey) won the A side of the boys playoff. SCCHS Cornelson rink had to come through the B side to earn the right to attend districts.

Whitemud’s playoff was in Frontier. There were no girls teams entered this year, and Frontier was the only boys team, but they are not attending the district competition.

Val Marie and Shaunavon mixed teams had to play for seeding at the SWAC Championship (and the title of section champion). It took an extra end, but Val Marie (McKenna Legault, Madison Stevens, Jacob Duquette, Jayne Hanson, Alex Waldner, coach Blaine Clement) came away with the win. Both Shaunavon and Val Marie have qualified for the district championship.

SWAC JUNIOR CURLING

Junior Sectional Playoffs will be held on February 8-9. Cypress Hills playsoff in Leader, Rolling Hills in Herbert and Whitemud in Shaunavon. As in the seniors, the top 2 junior section teams advance to the SWAC District Championship held in Swift Current on March 1-2

On that same weekend, the Regional Curling championship takes place in Regina. The top two curling teams, from each category at the SWAC championship, will advance.

All of our senior 1A – 5A SWAC basketball teams will be off to their conference championships on March 8-9. This is the first step on the “Road to Hoopla” (provincial basketball championship).
