Environment Canada has issued a Wind Warning for the Southwest corner of Saskatchewan, with winds forecast to exceed 90 kilometres per hour this afternoon.
Environment Canada notes that severe wind gusts are forecast as an area of particularly strong winds is moving into the region from Alberta.
The warning is in effect for the Swift Current – Herbert – Cabri – Kyle – Lucky Lake; the Leader – Gull Lake; plus the Shaunavon – Maple Creek – Val Marie – Cypress Hills forecast regions.
The severe winds are forecast to diminish this evening, but gusts as high as 50 to 60 kilometres will be felt tonight and into Friday.
Maple Creek was the Canadian hot spot during the noon hour, but also recorded a provincial second high gust of 70 kilometres per hour.
