The Swift Current Comp. Colts opened the Moose Jaw High School Football League playoffs with a dominant 24-0 win over the visiting Weyburn Eagles Saturday at Colts Field.
The fourth seeded Colts (3-3) led 22-0 at the half and continued their strong recent defensive play to defeat the fifth seeded Eagles (2-4).
Nic Bachiu led the Colts with two touchdowns. He opened the scoring with a four-yard touchdown reception early and then scored a 27-yard rushing touchdown late in the first half. Running back Parker Strojwas also ran in a three-yard touchdown early in the second quarter.
“It feels awesome,” said Bachiu of the playoff win at home. “We played these guys first week and we beat them. Now all these weeks leading up to this we have been waiting for this and the boys came and were ready and it feels good. So now we are ready for the next week.”
“I feel like the team performed pretty well today,” said grade 11 quarterback Austin Beverly-Collins. “The second [half] wasn’t as good, taking too many penalties on that side. The first half was fine, pretty good for us. We usually don’t do as well in the first, but today we came out, wanted to play, and we just took the W.”
The Colts will play in the league semi-final next Saturday.
