SCBEX public nomination period now open

A revamped nominating and selection procedure has been unveiled for the upcoming SCBEX – Spirit of Swift Current awards.

An open call for nominations is now underway, and a link is now available at the Swift Current And District Chamber of Commerce website (swiftcurrentchamber.ca) for people to nominate any local business or not-for-profit organization.
This nomination call is open until September 1 and this period is the public’s opportunity to have a say in the selection process. There is no limit to the number of nominations an individual can suggest.
The selection procedure has been revamped in order to simplify the process and reduce the perception of SCBEX being a “popularity contest”, so there is no public voting after the finalists have been selected. This was done in order to strengthen the prestige of SCBEX Awards and its recipients.
In September, the Chamber will compile a long list in each voting category and select the top five submissions in each category for a shortlist process. A Finalist Selection Committee will vote on the top three nominations in each category. This Finalist Selection Committee will include last year’s winners from each awards category.
An On Tap Shortlist Mixer will be held in late September where the shortlist will be unveiled.
In early October, the finalists will be asked to submit a brief mission statement that speaks to their award category criteria for consideration. In mid-October, the Chamber’s Board of Directors will vote on the finalists, basing their vote on mission statements provided by the businesses, with rankings obtained through the voting process also factoring into the final decision.
The Board of Directors will also be selecting the Business Member of the Year, the SCBEX Hall of Fame winner, plus the Citizen of the Year.
