SPCA holding special cat adoption promotion to ease high cat shelter numbers

The Swift Current SPCA is at capacity on the cat side of its operation and looking for some adoptions to help create room for more cats currently on the waiting list.

“One of the challenges of being a no-kill shelter is that we do have times when we have as many cats in shelter as we can handle and have to start putting others on the wait list,” notes Shelter Operations Manager Melissa Topham. The SPCA currently has 50 cats in its care, with only a few of those in foster care.

“Summer can also be a slower time for adoptions with people on vacation and out of their normal routine,” Topham noted.

To help encourage those who may be in market for a new cat, the local SPCA is running a promotion on July 28 and 29 which will give every cat adopter a discount off the adoption fee.

All cats six months old and older are eligible and once the adopter chooses a cat there will be an opportunity to draw a discount of from $10 to $50 off the regular adoption fee. A microchip fee will apply as usual and if the cat has not been spayed or neutered already, a refundable deposit for this surgery will be collected (to be refunded to the owner once the cat comes back in for its surgery).

“We really encourage folks to check out our website (www.spcaswiftcurrent.com) for our available cats and come in and talk to us this weekend – it could be the best time to get a cat,“ Topham stated.
