April 29 was a perfect day for a run in the park, with over 80 individuals participating in the 2017 Prpick BO$$ Mother Earth Run/Walk.
Participants were invited to run or walk along a one, two, five or 10 kilometre course along the Chinook Pathway from a starting point at Elmwood Park. Partial proceeds of the race were donated in support of community programming at Southwest Homes.
“We’re really trying to promote people to come to Southwest Saskatchewan to run,” explained race organizer Stephanie Prpick-Boss.
She was encouraged to see 83 participants, and with 25 volunteers there were over 100 people involved in the race event.
“We are hoping our numbers are going to continue to double. Last year we had 47, so we almost kind of doubled this year. The more people come out…we can put on more events.”
She is also hoping runners take note of other local events scheduled in 2017. On June 15, the Rotgut Run will test runners along a five kilometre route near Fort Walsh National Historic Site.
The second annual Beaver Flat 50 Ultra Marathon in the fall will attract competitors from across Canada for this 50 kilometres trail race at Saskatchewan Landing Provincial Park. The September 16 event, hosted by the Prairie Sky Running Company, also offers a five, 10 and 20 kilometre test for runners.
