Swift Current fire department deal with two fires last week

Vehicle fire March 7

Swift Current Fire Department crews were dispatched to a vehicle fire on Memorial Drive around midafternoon on March 7, 2024.

Upon arrival, the crew quickly extinguished the fire which was located in the engine compartment of the vehicle.

Two (2) Swift Current Fire Department vehicles responded to the incident, with five (5) personnel. RCMP were also on scene.

Due to extensive damage to the vehicle’s engine compartment, the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.

Structure fire March 9

Swift Current Fire Department crews were dispatched to a structure fire on the 400 block of 2nd Avenue Northwest on the evening of March 9, 2024.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered dense smoke and flames on the second floor of the unit. The fire was quickly extinguished, followed by ventilation and salvage operations. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.

Three (3) Swift Current Fire Department vehicles responded to the incident, involving nine (9) personnel. RCMP and ambulance services, as well as SaskEnergy and City Light & Power were also on scene.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
