The Swift Current Home Hardware Legionnaires split a weekend road trip against the Prince Albert Mintos in the Saskatchewan Male U18 AAA Hockey League.
Saturday, the Legionnaires earned a 2-1 shootout win over the host Mintos. Berney Weston made 25 saves over 65 minutes and then stopped Konnor Watson to end the shootout.
Kade Stringer, Parker Rondeau, and Jace Egland all scored in the shootout. Egland scored the only goal in regulation with assists from Trae Lees and Wesley Olson.
Taite Donkin scored for the Mintos. Brady Holtvogt took the loss with 18 saves.
Sunday, the Legionnaires lost 6-3 after being outscored 3-0 in the second period. Kayd Ruedig led the Legionnaires with two goals, Stringer added a goal and an assist, and Rondeau and Tristan Mitchell-Mcelhone both had two assists. Egland added one assist. Jacob Morris took the loss with 33 saves on 39 shots.
The Mintos got goals from six different skaters and 23 saves from Holtvogt.
The Legionnaires moved to 3-2-0, while the Mintos moved to 4-2-1.
The Legionnaires will visit the Estevan Bears on Friday and Saturday. They will also visit the Moose Jaw Warriors on Wednesday. The Legionnaires will host their home opener on October 28 against the Saskatoon Contacts.
