Broncos looking to extend win streak in Prince Albert tonight

The Swift Current Broncos earned a 6-1 win over the visiting Victoria Royals on October 28.

The Swift Current Broncos have won back-to-back games for the first time this season thanks to a commanding 6-1 win over the Victoria Royals on Friday night.

After dropping a quartet of one-goal decisions, Swift Current has now bounced back with a 5-4 win over Lethbridge on October 26, and following up with a strong final two periods in skating past Victoria.

Victoria opened the scoring when Brayden Schuurman collected his first of the season in his third game back in the line-up after recouping from an injury suffered in the pre-season.

However, Swift Current roared back with their biggest offensive showing of the season. Raphael Pelletier scored shorthanded to tie the score at 1-1 with his fourth of the season.

Swift Current scored three unanswered goals in the middle period, with Josh Filmon picking up his team leading sixth goal of the season with a shorthanded effort 3:06 into the period. Just 2:44 later Clarke Caswell counted his third of at the campaign for a 3-1 lead, and Pelletier counted his second of the game at the 8:18 mark of the period to extend the Bronco lead to 4-1.

The Broncos added a pair of insurance markers 18 second apart in the third period to put the game out of reach, with Brady Birnie counting his second of the season, and Josh Davies collecting his first goal of the year.

Rookie goaltender Joey Rocha turned aside 21 of 22 shots to earn his second career WHL victory. On the season Rocha now boasts a 1.44 goals against average and a .930 save percentage.

Royals netminder Logan Cunningham turned aside 20 of 26 shots during his first start of the season.

Swift Current is now 4-7-0-0 on the season, with Victoria remaining last in the Western Conference standings at 2-10-2-0.

The Broncos are now looking for their third win in a row on the road tonight when they visit the 3-8-2-0 Prince Albert Raiders. Swift Current returns to the friendly confines of the InnovationPlex on Wednesday to kick off the November portion of their schedule against the Vancouver Giants.
