The Swift Current Innovation Credit Union Wildcats opened their exhibition season with a narrow 4-3 loss to the Notre Dame Hounds in Gull Lake on Wednesday.
Jerzey Watteyne and Sadie Keller led the Wildcats with a goal and an assist each. Ella Wingert also scored, while Caitlyn Perlinger, Cydny Price, and Jessica Bouffard all added assists.
The Hounds scored three unanswered power play goals in the third period as they finished three-for-seven with the man-advantage. The Wildcats failed to capitalize on three power play opportunities.
Aurora Van Wormer played all 60 minutes in goal for the Wildcats, while Bailey Lindsay earned the win for the Hounds.
The two teams will rematch in Sept. 30 in Wilcox. The Wildcats will also hold a Showcase on October 2-3 to complete the preseason.
They will open the Saskatchewan Female U18 AAA Hockey League regular season on Oct. 9-10 in the Battlefords.
