The longest serving member of the Swift Current Kiwanis Club received a special recognition during the club’s luncheon meeting on December 22.
Len Martinoski was presented Honorary Membership status for 2017-2018 in recognition of his over four decade contribution to the local club. He joined Kiwanis in 1974 and during his 43 years as a member he served tireless in a variety of positions, including club president in 1986-1987.
“For some time now he has been the longest serving member of our club,” explained Swift Current Kiwanis Club President Brad Julien explained during the presenation last Friday. “During this time in the Kiwanis family, he has been an outstanding member.”
Martinoski was a familiar face during Kiwanis Christmas tree sales and tree deliveries, Kiwanis apple sales in the city and rural areas, plus he and his wife Marlene had spearheaded the Fun Olympics at the Palliser Regional Care Centre for a number of years.
“The Kiwanis parade float was his baby for many years, and he took particular pride in seeing it take its place in the parade each year,” Julien added.
Outside of Kiwanis, Martinoski served as Chair of the Building and Property Committee at First United Church for a number of years.
“Time goes fast when you’re having fun,” Martinoski told the crowd at the well attended December meeting. “And I had a lot of fun over the last 40 years. So thank you very much for supporting me and keep the club going.”
