U18 AAA Wildcats clinch second place

The Swift Current Innovation Federal Credit Union Wildcats won their final two regular season games to clinch the second seed in the Saskatchewan Female U18 AAA Hockey League playoffs.

Saturday, the Wildcats fired 44 shots on goal in a 4-1 win over the host Notre Dame Hounds. The game was scoreless after one period, but the Wildcats outshot the Hounds 24-1 in the second period to take a 3-0 lead, including a pair of power play goals.

Ashley Vezeau made eight saves in the win. Kapri Darby, Laynee Rondeau, Stevie Christiaens, and Ella Schenher all scored. Reese Kampen, Emily McCleary, and Raela Packet all added assists.

Annie Hodges made 40 saves for the Hounds, while Jade Rumancik scored the only goal on the power play in the third period.

The Wildcats closed out the regular season with a 4-1 win on Sunday when they finished two-for-three on the power play.

Christiaens and Charlize Hillmer both had a goal and an assist, while Madden Rublee added two assists. Kampen and Schenher also scored. Olivia Ferguson and Sienna Watson added assists. Emilee Klapak made 23 saves on 24 shots.

Hodges made 40 saves and Keeley McMaster scored for the Hounds.

The second seeded Wildcats (18-10-0-2) will face the last-place Hounds (0-29-1-0) in the opening round of the Saskatchewan Female U18 AAA Hockey League playoffs, beginning Saturday at 7:45 p.m. at S3 West Arena. Game two will be Monday in Wilcox. Game three, if necessary, would be Wednesday in Swift Current.
