Robinson earns trip to U20 Nationals

Swift Current’s Ethan Robinson skipped his rink to second place at U20 Men’s Provincials secured a spot at Nationals later this month.

He was joined by third Lewis MacDiarmid, second Joshua Kirilenko, and lead Nathan Weiss at the event in Swift Current on Feb. 27 – March 1.

They topped the round robin with a 4-1 record. They defeated Saskatoon’s Rogan Snow 7-4 on Thursday. Friday, they won 8-5 over Martensville’s Dylan Derksen and lost 6-4 to Esterhazy’s Brandon Weiss.

Friday, the Saskatoon Nutana rink won 8-5 over Saskatoon’s Luke Olson, 11-5 over Heisler, and then lost 5-4 to Snow in the 1v2 game. They rebounded to defeat Derksen 5-2 in the semi-final.

Robinson lost the final 7-4 to Snow. Robinson scored two in the second to lead 2-1, but then allowed two in the third and Snow stole singles in the fourth and fifth ends to take control of the game. Robinson scored two in the seventh, but Snow scored a pair in the eighth to end the game.

Robinson’s rink earns the second Saskatchewan spot at the Canadian U20 Men’s Championship in Sudbury beginning on March 20.

Cabri’s Clare Meachem curled on the Kamdyn Bauldic rink out of Martensville at U20 Womens Provincials in Swift Current.

They opened the an 8-4 win over Estevan’s Grace Loudon and lost 7-4 to Regina’s Shawna Simpson on Thursday.

They defeated Spiritwood’s Jessie Allchurch 10-3 on Friday and then defeated Regina’s Shaylee Reimer 11-2 later that day.

Saturday, Bauldic lost 9-3 to Martensville’s Heidi Fradette and won 6-5 over Saskatoon’s Chloe Semeniuk to place second with a 4-2 record.

They lost their playoff opener 6-4 to Simpson in the 1v2 game and then lost 10-3 to Semeniuk in the semi-final.

Swift Current’s Aryn Thibault played third on the Fradette rink out of Martensville. They finished with a 3-3 record. They lost their opener 9-5 to Semeniuk on Thursday.

Fradette won 12-4 over Simpson and 7-6 over Reimer on Friday before losing 6-4 to Allchurch. Saturday, they won 9-3 over Bauldic and lost 5-1 to Loudon.
