Wills leads Southwest golfers at MJT stop in Swift Current

A total of 109 junior golfers took part in the three-day Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s MJT adidas Golf Series event at the Elmwood Golf Club over the weekend.

Kyle’s Chloe Wills was the top Southwest finisher in second spot in the 15-19 Girls Division, just one shot back of Saskatoon’s Grace Odnokon (78, 85, 78). Wills led the division with a 73 on day one before carding an 89 on Sunday and an 80 on Monday. Swift Current’s Niya Friesen placed fourth with rounds of 80, 92, and 80. Swift Current’s Hailey Bollinger finished 12th with rounds of 110, 106, and 104.

Swift Current’s Kayden Meyer placed fourth in the U15 Girls Division. She shot a 90 on day one, followed by a 105 on Sunday and a 98 on Monday. Alyxa Melsted (Wynyard) won the event by one stroke (88, 98, 91).

Swift Current’s Max Gehl placed fifth in the Bantam Boys Division. He shot a 77 on day one, followed by rounds of 89 and 78. Shaunavon’s Kellen Ross was 10th with rounds of 86, 90, and 87. Swift Current’s Jace Munro placed 12th with rounds of 86, 96, and 88. Swift Current’s Drake Baker was 18th with rounds of 92, 103, and 98.

Swift Current’s Matty Schmiess finished eighth amongst 36th golfers in the Juvenile Boys Division. He carded rounds of 74, 80, and 80 to finish 16 shots back of the winner.

Kyle’s Jace Wills tied for 29th with rounds of 86, 96, and 98.

Swift Current’s Ryder Woods tied for 10th in the Junior Boys Division. He opened the weekend with a 76, followed by an 81 and a 79. Swift Current’s Ayden Ross also tied for 10th with rounds of 81, 74, and 81. Swift Current’s Nate Silbernagel was tied for 26th with rounds of 83, 87, and 85. Swift Current’s Makstr McIntyre shot rounds of 83 and 81 before withdrawing.

Elmwood also hosted a Mini Tour stop on Saturday. Herbert’s Jameson Fox won the Boys 8U Division with a 123.

Maple Creek’s Lachlan Williams placed fifth in the Boys 11-12 Division with a 91, only 10 shots back of the leader. Consul’s Sammie Seifert was sixth with a round of 108.

Swift Current’s Benjamin Senicar placed sixth in the Boys 9-10 Division with a 101.

The next Saskatchewan stop for the MJT Tour will be in Lloydminster on May 31 – June 1.
