The Swift Current Home Hardware Legionnaires finished with a 5-0 record in the preseason after winning three close games last week.
Tuesday, the Legionnaires won the special teams battle decisively in a 4-1 win over the visiting Battlefords Stars.
The Legionnaires finished three-for-eight on the power play and killed off all eight shorthanded situations.
Jace Egland led the offense with two goals and one assist. Keegan Nash added one goal and one assist, while rookies Jake Hargrave and Hunter Wilm each had two assists. Wesley Olson also scored. Fynn Harasymchuk and Mason Fauser also added assists.
Cade Mitchell made the start and stopped 15 of 16 shots over 28:32. Evan Hutcheon stopped all 17 shots he faced over the final 31:28.
Friday, the Legionnaires edged the host Moose Jaw Warriors 5-4 in a shootout. Egland and Connor Rieger both scored in the shootout, while only Keaton Lesperance replied for the Warriors against rookie Evan Hutcheon.
Hutcheon earned the win with 42 saves over 65 minutes. Carter Moen scored twice, Trae Peterson had one goal and one assist, while Hargrave added two assists. Olson also scored.
Sunday, the Legionnaires added a 4-3 shootout win over the visiting Warriors. Porter Nickason and Hunter Wilm scored in the shootout. Cade Mitchell made 38 saves over 65 minutes.
Peterson paced the offense with a goal and an assist, while Moen and Egland also scored. Olson, Hargrave, and Will Kirwan added assists.
The Legionnaires will open the Saskatchewan Male U18 AAA Hockey League
regular season on Saturday in Moose Jaw. They will host the Warriors on Sunday at 3:15 p.m. at the InnovationPlex.
