Six different Southwest competitors finished in the money at the first Canadian Cowboys Association rodeo of the 2021 season in Arrowwood, Alberta.
Brady Bertram opened the season with a first-place showing in Bareback as he topped the four-man field at the Ag Society Rodeo. The Maple Creek cowboy rode Detroit City for 77 points to claim $756.
Cadillac’s Brooke Lange led a strong Southwest contingent in Ladies Barrel Racing when she placed third in 15.06 seconds for $513. Mankota’s Karli Cowie followed in sixth spot in 15.21 seconds for $135. High River’s Amara Duxbury won the event in 14.93 seconds.
A couple of the McLeod brothers found the money in the 26-cowboy Tie Down Roping Field. Tyce McLeod placed fifth in 10.5 seconds for $174. Tuftin McLeod followed in sixth spot in 10.8 seconds for $97. The event was won by hometown cowboy Dawson Johnson in 9.4 seconds.
The Waldeck family also found the money in Team Roping. Tee McLeod and Brady Chappel (Moose Jaw) placed fifth in 5.1 seconds for $505. Tuftin and Tyce McLeod placed sixth in 5.5 seconds for $280. The hometown pairing of Kash Bonnett and Logan Spady won the event in 4.5 seconds.
The CCA returns to action at a new rodeo in Fort Qu’Appelle on July 17-18. The Frontier Days Rodeo will take place in Swift Current on July 23-25.
