The Swift Current Home Hardware Legionnaires opened the Saskatchewan Male AAA Hockey League playoffs with a 6-2 win over the visiting Estevan Bears on Saturday.
Jaxson Squires scored twice and Kasey Gleim had one goal and two assists. Hunter Wilm added a goal and an assist. Trae Peterson and Mason Fauser also scored. Jake Hagrave registered two assists, while Matt Henkelman, Hudson Postnikoff, Kohen Ruedig, Kyler Bilokreli, and Finn Gustafson all added singles. Cade Mitchell earned the win with 24 saves.
Evan Hutcheon made 34 saves for the Bears. Dylan Brass and Boston Schmidt scored in the loss.
Game two of the best-of-five series will be Monday in Estevan. Game three will be Thursday in Swift Current.
