The Swift Current 15U 57’s won silver at AAA Tier 2 Provincials in Regina over the weekend.
The 15U AAA 57’s opened the tournament with a 13-9 win over the North West Sun Devils on Friday morning. The 57’s used five different pitchers to get the win, led by a scoreless relief appearance from Finn Ostrander as he got the final five outs without allowing a run.
Ryden Getz led the offense with a single, a double, a stolen base, one run scored, and four runs batted in. Ben Reiter added two doubles, one run scored, and two RBI’s. Luke Mitchell singled twice, walked twice, and scored twice. Jacoby Patzer singled, walked twice, scored twice, and had one RBI. Lincoln Green tripled, walked, was hit by a pitch, scored, and had one RBI.
The 57’s followed up with an 8-4 win over the East Central Dodgers. Ostrander earned the win as he allowed three earned runs over 4.2 innings in the start. He also singled twice, stole a base, scored twice, and had two RBI’s. Getz singled, doubled, walked, scored, and knocked home one run. Reiter singled twice and had one RBI. Vann Deobald singled twice and added one RBI.
The 57’s dropped their only game on Saturday 20-1 to the Moose Jaw Canucks. They scored their only run in the first inning when Mitchell singled Green home after a single and a stolen base.
The 57’s defeated the East Central Dodgers 6-4 in the semi-final on Sunday morning. Ethan Poirier earned the win as he held the Dodgers to three earned runs while striking out eight over six innings. Tucker Paul struck out all three batters he faced to close out the win.
Mitchell led the offense with two doubles, one single, two stolen bases, two runs scored, and two RBI’s. Deobald singled, doubled, stole a base, and knocked on run in. Green singled, doubled, walked, and scored twice.
The 57’s rematched with the Canucks in the final, but lost 6-2. Mitchell hit a two-run home run in the first inning to supply the lone offense. He made the start and struck out eight over five innings in the loss.
