Swift Current’s Talyah Cuthbert and Zoe Gottselig won the U17 Canada Cup with Team Saskatchewan in Regina.
The Saskatchewan Green Selects defeated Team Canada White in four sets in the Tier 1 championship gold medal match on Sunday. They lost the opening set 23-25 before storming back with 25-18, 25-18, and 25-11 wins.
The Green Selects had defeated Quebec Noire in four sets in the semi-final after losing the opening set as well (19-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-19).
They opened the playoffs on Friday with a five-set win over Team NB Maroon (25-23, 22-25, 22-25, 26-24, 15-9) in the round of 16. They added a five-set win over the BC Selects (13-25, 25-16, 19-25, 25-23, 17-15) in the quarter-final.
Saskatchewan opened the tournament with a three set loss to Team Canada – Red (17-25, 16-25, 23-25) on Wednesday. Thursday, they defeated Quebec Noire (25-18, 17-25, 25-12, 21-25, 15-11). Friday, they wrapped up the round robin with a three-set win over Nova Scotia Navy (25-20, 25-22, 25-23) as they finished tied for first in the Pool C with a 2-1 record.
