Broncos select defensemen to open WHL Prospects Draft

The Swift Current Broncos used their first pick of the 2026 WHL Prospects Draft to select defenseman Jacson Bradbeer 22nd overall.

The Maple Ridge, BC product had nine goals and 52 assists in 29 regular season games with the Yale Hockey Academy U15 Prep team. The 5’9’’, right-shot defender also had six points in three playoff games.

They added another defenseman with the 23rd overall selection. The Broncos selected 6’3.5’’ Nathan Roberts out of Surrey, BC. The right-shot defenseman had four goals and 21 assists in 30 games with the Delta Hockey Academy U15 Prep team. He added five points in three post-season outings.

The Broncos opened the second day of the draft by selecting 6’1’’ right-wing Caleb Philp 25th overall. The Shellbrook product had 28 goals and 45 assists in 27 regular season games with the Prince Albert U15 AA Pirates. He added 11 goals and 11 assists in eight playoff games. 

Two picks later, the Broncos selected 5’10’’ forward Easton Pitz 27th overall. The Virden, MB product had 29 goals and 27 assists in 28 regular season games with the Rink Hockey Academy U15 Prep in Winnipeg. He added one goal and five assists in three playoff outings.

The Broncos used their third-round pick to select Warman’s Jesse Scriven 63rd overall. The 5’11’’ centre had 50 goals and 46 assists in 26 regular season games for the Warman U15 AA Wildcats. He added four goals and five assists in six playoff games.

The Broncos used their fourth round pick to select goaltender Max Davis 86th overall. The 6’2’’ netminder from Vernon, BC had a 6-9 record with Rink Hockey Academy U15 Prep and a 4.93 goals against average to go along an .881 save percentage. He was 4-0 in the playoffs with a 3.60 GAA and an .883 save percentage.

In the fifth round, the Broncos drafted 5’11.5’’ forward Keatyn Devlin 94th overall. The Edmonton native registered 10 goals and 10 assists in 24 games with Northern Alberta Xtreme U16 Prep and added three points in four playoff games. 

The Broncos grabbed another defenseman in the seventh round with Vancouver’s Will Simpson 150th overall. The 6’3’’ Simpson had eight points in 28 regular season games with the BWC Academy U15 Prep team. 

The Broncos added another defenseman in the following round when they selected White Bear, MN’s Mason Fischer 163rd overall. The 5’10’’ Fischer had 13 points in 26 games with the Southwest Christian/Rich. HS Stars. 

The Broncos closed out their draft with St. Albert’s Zack Ruptash in the ninth round. The 186th pick had 29 goals and 22 assists in 32 regular season games with the St. Albert U15 AAA Sabres. The 5’8.5’’ centre added nine points in four playoff games. 

The Broncos finished the draft with five forwards, four defensemen, and one goaltender. They drafted four players from BC, two from Alberta, two from Saskatchewan, one from Manitoba, and one from the United States.

The Kelowna Rockets used the first overall pick to select forward Madden Daneault from Red Deer. The 5’11’’ centre had 65 goals and 84 assists in 34 regular season games with the Red Deer U15 AAA Rebels.
