Schmiess ties for second at final MJT Saskatchewan stop

The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour wrapped up its Saskatchewan schedule on August 23-24 at the Legends Golf Club in Warman.

Swift Current’s Matty Schmiess continued his strong season with a second-place tie in the Juvenile Boys Division. He shot a 76 on day one and then improved to a one-under 71 to finish two shots off the lead. Kai Kriekle (Regina) won the division with rounds of 75 and 70.

Schmiess finished tied for second in the Juvenile Boys Order of Merit standings with 217.5 points, behind only Kriekle (300 points).

Swift Current’s Kayden Meyer placed fourth in the U15 Girls Division. She shot a 103 on day one, but improved to a 91 in the second round. Youran Zhu (Saskatoon) won the division by 12 shots (79-80).

Cadillac’s Jonah Bissonnette also placed fourth in the Peewee Boys Division. He carded rounds of 86 and 88. Hudson Deibert (Regina) won the division by seven shots with rounds of 76 and 72.

Swift Current’s Hailey Bollinger finished fifth in the 15-19 Girls Division. She carded a 92 in the opening round and then followed up with a 96. Yuna Lee (Regina) won the division by nine strokes ((86-82).

Shaunavon’s Kellen Ross was the top Southwest finisher in the Bantam Boys Division with rounds of 83 and 79 to tie for 15th. Swift Current’s Jace Munro was 20th with rounds of 79 and 86. Swift Current’s Max Gehl finished 27th with rounds of 95 and 82. Jun Lee (Regina) won the division by five strokes with rounds of 71 and 70.

A Mini Tour event was also held at the Wildwood Golf Course in Saskatoon. Herbert’s Jameson Fox was the top Southwest golfer in third spot in the Boys 8U Division with a 98. Swift Current’s Soren Richards placed fifth with a 108.  

Maple Creek’s Lachlan Williams placed 11th in the Boys 11-12 Division with a 96.
