A full contingent of Swift Current United Soccer Clubs were in Saskatoon for the 27th Annual Harder Avalon Classic over the weekend. The tournament was largely disrupted by smoke from the northern forest fires, but two United teams were able to play nearly a full tournament and bring home gold as part of the tournament shifted from outdoors to the indoor turf facility.

The U15 United Girls won all four matches to claim gold in Division II. They opened the tournament with a 7-0 win over Saskatoon Hollandia. They added a 2-1 round robin victory over the Eastlake Thorns and a 2-0 win over the host Aurora Concordes. They clinched gold on Sunday afternoon with a 3-2 win over the Eastlake Thorns.

The U13 United Girls also won gold with four wins, allowing only a single goal along the way. They edged Saskatoon Atletico 1-0 on a late goal from Avery Hamilton on Friday evening.

The tournament shifted indoors on Saturday and they defeated Excelsior FC 1-0 on a Brooklyn Biensch goal. They closed out the round robin with a shootout win over Regina FC by forfeit to claim top spot in the six-team crossover round robin.

The U13 United girls met the host Aurora Ice in the championship match on Sunday morning. They earned a lead with a first-half goal from Claire Metke before Aurora tied the game off a corner kick. With a shootout looming, striker Beth Mohagen scored the winning goal in the final minutes.

Swift Current United Soccer Club teams will be in Yorkton for a club day next weekend.
