The Swift Current U15 Boys Surge Green basketball team placed second at the 2025 Premier Prairie Classic in Moose Jaw. They won once in the four-team, double-elimination bracket.
The Surge lost the opening game 104-61 to the Moose Jaw Spartans. They trailed by four points after one quarter, but were outscored 33-15 in the second quarter.
Brix Paraiso led the Surge with 17 points, followed by 10 from Jack Thomson.
“It was our first game since April 11-13 and it showed. The Spartans are a skilled and well coached team and we really struggled with our transition defense,” noted coach Adam Jackson.
The Surge rebounded with an 81-54 win over the Moose Jaw Ballers. They led by 10 points after one quarter and then stretched the lead to 37-20 at halftime. Gradyn Jackson scored 15 points, followed by 13 from AJ Peters.
“Our defense improved against the Ballers and we were able to get out and score in transition,” said Jackson.
The Surge Green dropped the championship game 90-57 to the Spartans. They trailed by three points after one quarter, but were outscored 29-16 in the second frame. Jackson led the way with 18 points, followed by eight from Connor Letkeman.
“We had to face the Spartans again and were able to keep the game closer longer. Our help defense improved and we didn’t give up nearly as many fast break points,” said Jackson.
The Surge will be in Regina for the BSI Provincial Championship on May 24-25. They will face the Slam Heat, Excite, and Golden Ticket U15 teams in the Gold Division.
