The Swift Current Broncos announced on Thursday afternoon that the hockey club had parted ways with Head Coach Taras McEwen effectively immediately.
“I would like to thank Taras for his commitment to the program,” said General Manager Chad Leslie in a team issued release. “We wish him all the best in the future.”
The club said that the search for a new head coach would begin immediately.
The Broncos reached the playoffs in both seasons under McEwen. They finished with a 35-30-1-2 record in 2024-25, eighth in the Eastern Conference, before losing in five games to the Medicine Hat Tigers in the opening round of the playoffs.
McEwen took over early in the 2023-24 season as the Broncos won the Central Division with a 40-22-4-2 record. They were knocked out in the second round of the playoffs by the Moose Jaw Warriors that season.
