Broncos add defenseman on day two of WHL Prospects Draft

The Swift Current Broncos opened day two of the WHL Prospects Draft by selecting Linden Andersen with the 37th pick. The 5’9.5’’ defenseman from Fort St. John, BC had 34 goals and 49 assists in 32 games with the NEBC U15 AA Trackers this season.

They added 5’9.5’’ centre Luke Huska with the 44th pick later in the second round. Huska had 14 goals and 27 assists in 34 regular season games with the Edge School U15 Prep team. He is the son of Calgary Flames head coach Ryan Huska, who was the long-time head coach of the Kelowna Rockets before heading to the American Hockey League with the Adirondack Flames and the Stockton Heat.

The Broncos used the 70th pick to grab 6’2’’ left wing Tanner Massey out of Surrey, BC. Massey had 19 goals and 16 assists in 36 games with the Yale Hockey Academy U15 Prep team.

Two picks later, they used the 72nd pick to select 6’1’’ defenseman Quinn Pickering. The West Vancouver product had six goals and 32 assists with the St. George’s School U15 Prep team.

The Broncos added 6’1’’ defenseman Lucas Conrad with the 93rd overall pick. The Coquitlam, BC native had two goals and 17 assists in 30 games with the Vancouver NE U15 AAA Chiefs this season.

They had another pick in the fifth round and drafted Martensville’s Weston Kostiuk 102nd overall. The 5’10’’ centre had 40 goals and 21 assists in 29 games with the U15 AA Marauders.

They added Pilot Mound, MB’s Maddox Ramage in the sixth round, 125th overall. The 6’2’’ left wing registered 24 goals and 18 assists in 33 games with the Pilot Mound Hockey Academy U15 Prep team.

The Broncos entered the goaltending market early in the seventh round when they selected Grande Prairie’s Adrien Brochu 140th overall. The 6’0’’ netminder had a 3.18 goals against average and a .914 save percentage in 16 games with the GPAC U15 AAA Storm.

They added Winnipeg’s Jaxon Dean with the 148th pick later in the seventh round. The 5’7’’ forward had 43 goals and 45 assists in 32 games with the Winnipeg U15 AAA Wild Green this season.

The Broncos selected West Kelowna, BC’s Roman Haddad 171st overall. The 5’11.5’’ defenseman had 15 points and 62 penalty minutes in 36 games with the Okanagan Hockey Academy U15 Prep team this season.

They added American defenseman Brooks Suter with the 194th overall pick.

The Broncos had selected forward Cohenn Rotar with the 22nd overall pick on Wednesday.
