SCCHS wrestlers win Alberta medals

The Swift Current Comp.  Ardens and Colts wrestling team placed eighth out of 96 teams from across Western Canada at the University of Alberta Golden Bears Wrestling Tournament in Edmonton over the weekend.

Leading the way was Luke Nelson with a gold medal in the 76kg Elite Men’s Division at the event that featured over 700 wrestlers.

The Colts also got second-place performances from Jared Steinley in 72kg Novice Men and Titus Erick in 59kg Junior High Boys.

The Ardens and Colts totalled four bronze medals as Noah Steinley (120kg Elite Men), Nick Rennie (98 kg Novice Men), Grace Geisbrecht (61kg Novice Women), and Trina Friesen (65kg Novice Women) all placed third.

Dylan Hughes (59kg Elite Men), Conner Hammer (62kg Elite Men), Paul Piche (98kg Novice Men), Fenix Snedden (50kg Novice Women), and Hillary Lacelle (57kg Novice Women) all added fourth-place finishes.

The SCCHS wrestlers will be off to a tournament in Moose Jaw next weekend, their final event before SHSAA Regionals in Prince Albert on Feb. 29.
