Ardens break through at Soccerfest

The Swift Current Comp. Ardens won four matches in 30 hours to claim their first Soccerfest championship at the 14-team tournament in Moose Jaw over the weekend.

The Ardens opened the tournament with a 12-0 win over the Notre Dame Hounds on Friday morning.

MJ Anderson and Heidi Spetz each scored a hat trick, while Jannae Carlson finished with three assists. Jaycee Berggren scored twice, Tenille Willows added a goal and an assist, and Taylor Kohls assisted on a pair of goals.

Olivia Koebel, Kaitlyn Berggren, and Alexis Keller also scored, while Calli Moreau-Simpson picked up a single helper. Jasmine Temoshawsky earned the shutout in goal.

The Ardens followed up with a win over the LeBoldus Golden Suns when they trailed twice during a 4-2 victory.

Berggren, Willows, Carlson, and Koebel all scored. Katrina McGuire and Kohls added assists as Temoshawsky earned the win in goal.

Saturday, the Ardens edged Regina O’Neill 1-0 in the semi-final when Anderson scored the only goal in the 25th minute with an assist from Kohls as Temoshawsky picked up the shutout.

The Ardens closed out the championship with a 5-0 win over St. Mary on Saturday afternoon. Jannae Carlson scored twice, while Anderson had a goal and two assists.

Willows and Spetz also scored and Kohls added another assist. Temoshawsky added her third shutout of the tournament as the Ardens did not concede a goal over the final 171 minutes.

The Ardens will host the Moose Jaw Vanier Spirits in league action on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at Irwin Field.
