Broncos deal Johnson to Saskatoon

The Swift Current Broncos traded Cole Johnson to the Saskatoon Blades Jan. 5.

The Swift Current Broncos made a move ahead of the Western Hockey League trade deadline by sending forward Cole Johnson to the Saskatoon Blades Thursday.

The Broncos received a seventh-round pick in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft and a fifth round pick in 2018 in return for the 18-year-old forward.

Johnson registered four goals, six assists, and 18 penalty minutes in 34 games for the Broncos this season. He was originally drafted in the second round, 34th overall, in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft. Johnson totaled 11 points in 43 games over three seasons as his first two seasons were derailed by multiple injuries.

“We thank Cole very much for his contributions to the Broncos,” said Director of Player Personnel Manny Viveiros in a team issued release. “We wish him all the best with the Blades and thank him for representing us on and off the ice.”
