The Swift Current U12 Swift Current Sonic Girl’s softball team, a team made up of players from the three house league U12 teams, was at the Saskatoon Hustlers Summer Classic, a 20-team tournament over the weekend.
The Sonic started pool play with an 18-11 win over the Muenster A’s. The second round-robin game saw the Sonic face the Twin City Angels. The Sonic bats were alive in the early innings, getting a big lead early and finishing with a 16-9 win.
The last game of pool play was against the Saskatoon Hustlers. A leadoff home-run got momentum on the Sonic side and propelled them to a 15-8 victory over the Hustlers to finish the round robin with a perfect 3-0 record.
The Sonic lost 8-1 to Estevan, the eventual tournament champions, in the quarterfinal game.
The Sonic are off to Macklin for a six-team tournament this weekend as they continue their preparation for the provincial championships in early July.
