Legionnaires in early playoff hole

The Swift Current Home Hardware Legionnaires find themselves in an early hole in the opening round of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League playoffs.

The fifth seeded Legionnaires lost 3-2 on Saturday to the fourth seeded Notre Dame Hounds in Wilcox.

Brendan Kerr scored with 6:02 remaining in regulation to lift the Hounds to the series-opening win.

The Legionnaires had led on a second-period goal from Mason Strutt. Notre Dame responded with goals 1:24 apart from Will Lavigne and a shorthanded goal from Drew Englot. Chase Gallant scored minutes later to tie the game for Swift Current.

Reed Jacobson, Lucas Ochitwa, Blake Rasmuson, and Jaxon Martens picked up assists for the Legionnaires.

Thomas Wardle made 36 saves for the Hounds. Ethan Hein took the loss with 22 saves.

Game two will be Monday at 7:45 p.m. back in Swift Current.
