Wildcats lose a close one in Saskatoon

The Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats put up a good fight, but lost their final Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League game of 2018 3-2 to the host Saskatoon Stars on Saturday.

The game was tied 1-1 after one period when Layne Hryhoriw scored for the Wildcats. Each team also scored in the second period, including a Brooklyn Rublee goal for the Wildcats.

Makena Kushniruk scored her second goal of the game midway through the third period to lift the Stars to the win as they improved to 17-0-1-0.

Kenedee Klevgaard and Ashlee Wolfe added assists for the Wildcats as they fell to 6-9-0-1.

Amaya Giraudier took the loss with 25 saves to fall to 4–7-0, while Kaitlyn Cardrain earned the win with 18 saves.

The Wildcats will resume their league schedule on Jan. 5-6 in the Battlefords.
