Wildcats’ comeback bid falls short in Saskatoon

The Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats scored three straight goals in the third period, but their comeback attempt fell short in a 6-3 loss to the host Saskatoon Stars on Friday.

The Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League leading Stars scored the opening five goals after a scoreless first period. The Wildcats got goals from Kenedee Klevgaard, Ashlee Wolfe, and Shelby Rublee over a 3:33 stretch late, but were unable to draw even.

Carissa Hogan picked up a pair of assists, while Crystal Wale, Taylor Lind, and Brooklyn Rublee added assists. Harper Davey took the loss with 21 saves on 27 shots.

Calli Arnold, Makena Kushniruk, Chace Sperling, Abby DeCorby, Joelle Fiala, and Kaylee Baun scored for the Stars, who got 17 saves from Arden Kliewer.

The Wildcats were unable to capitalize on five power play opportunities, while Saskatoon finished one-for-three with the man-advantage.

The Stars improved their league leading record to 16-0-1-0, while the Wildcats dropped to 6-8-0-1.

The two teams will rematch on Saturday at 2:15 p.m. at Merlis Belsher Place.
