Hofer’s 65 saves come up short

Joel Hofer made 65 saves in a losing effort as the Swift Current Broncos opened their five-game BC Division road trip with a 6-2 loss to the host Vancouver Giants on Tuesday.

The Broncos were outshot 71-16 as they failed to win a second straight game after picking up their first win of the season on Saturday in Brandon.

Bowen Byram led the Giants with two goals, while Dawson Holt, Davis Koch, Dylan Plouffe, and Alex Kannok Leipert also scored.

Tanner Nagel notched his first goal of the season in the second period to cut the deficit to 3-1. Ben King scored with 54 seconds remaining in regulation for his first Western Hockey League goal.

Vancouver improved to 9-1-1-0, while the Broncos dropped to 1-8-0-0.

The Broncos will be right back in action on Wednesday against the Victoria Royals (7-1-0-0).
