Three Southwest winners in Wapella as CCA Finals near

The final rodeo prior to the Canadian Cowboys Association Finals was held in Wapella on October 5-6.

Maple Creek’s Brady Bertram will enter the Finals on a high after tying for top spot in Bareback after riding Bitcoin for 75 points to pocket $396.

Swift Current’s Dusty Caragata concluded the regular season on a winning note with a win in Steer Wrestling in 3.7 seconds for $584. Kyle’s Harrison Hantelman finished in sixth place in 5.0 seconds for $100.

Val Marie’s Riley Hayes worked with Zane Marcenko (Rockglen) to win Team Roping in 5.3 seconds for $1,461. Hazenmore’s Ben and Chanse Switzer finished in fourth spot in 5.7 seconds for $705.

Three of the top four finishers in Saddle Bronc came from the Southwest. Maple Creek’s Mike Gordon placed second after he rode Laramie for 75 points and $340. Swift Current’s Timothy Costello was third with 73 points on Ugly Truth for $226 in Wapella. Piapot’s Casey Bertram placed fourth with 72 points on Big Shoes for $113.

A couple of young stars raced to top-five finishes in Ladies Barrel Racing. Mankota’s Kassidy Williamson finished second in 12.79 seconds for $483. Cadillac’s Brooke Lange followed in fifth spot in 13.04 seconds for $181.

Two Southwest cowboys finished in the money in Tie Down Roping. Waldeck’s Tyce McLeod tied for third in 9.8 seconds for $332. Lucky Lake’s Tyler Getz finished sixth in 10.2 seconds for $100.

Val Marie’s McKenna Legault added a fourth place finish in Junior Girls Barrel Racing in 13.2 seconds for $93.
