The Duncalfe family had a successful debut in a new swimming challenge at the South Saskatchewan Open Water Classic on Sunday.

The test event for the 2019 Western Canada Summer Games took place at the Saskatchewan Landing Main Beach and featured 30 swimmers in the water from swim clubs across the province. It was the first open water swimming event in Saskatchewan in over 25 years.

The host Swift Current Barracudas Swim Club had a number of swimmers in action, including two event winners from the Duncalfe family.

The first race to get underway was the Boys 1,500 Metres and Swift Current’s Griffin Duncalfe took top spot in 23:49. He was followed by teammates Reid Ewert in 23:56 and Evan Ewert in 24:05.

The Barracudas’ Seth Unger was seventh in 27:49 and Luke Regier placed 10th in 30:57.

The lone Barracudas female swimmer was Elliot Duncalfe, who won the Girl’s 12-14 3,000 Metre race in 1:00:20.
