Southwest competitors were amongst the top performers at a Canadian Cowboys Association rodeo in Eston on June 22-23.
The Southwest took four of the top-six spots in Team Roping in Eston. Mankota’s Shawn Williamson and Swift Current’s Blaine Switzer won the event in 7.7 seconds for $1,586. Waldeck’s Tee and Scott McLeod followed in second in 8.3 seconds for $1,313. Cadillac’s Kelton Lang and Stewart Valley’s Aaron Moen tied for fourth in 11.1 seconds for $629. Hazenmore’s Ben and Chanse Switzer rounded out the money winners in 11.4 seconds for $273 in sixth place.
Maple Creek cowgirls swept the top three spots in Junior Girls Barrel Racing. Janae Wilson won the event in 13.42 seconds for $244. Lily Wilson took second spot in 13.76 seconds for $183. Cassidy Gordon was third in 14.00 seconds for $122.
Four of the top-five cowboys in Steer Wrestling came from the Southwest. Swift Current’s Dusty Caragata earned the win in 5.0 seconds for $561. Waldeck’s Tee McLeod followed in third in 7.2 seconds for $374. Val Marie’s Riley Hayes placed fourth in 12.5 seconds for $280. Maple Creek’s Adam Gilchrist was fifth in 17.9 seconds for $187.
Shaunavon’s Haley Glasrud added a win in Ladies Barrel Racing in 13.51 seconds for $814.
Southwest cowboys took two of the top three spots in Saddle Bronc in Eston. Maple Creek’s Adam Gilchrist put up 72 points on Frontier Way for $432 in second spot. Swift Current’s Jeremy Dillon was third with 71 points on Prairie Fire for $288.
Maple Creek’s Brady Bertram added a third-place showing in Bareback with 70 points on Moody Hills for $300.
The CCA is in Swift Current for Frontiers Days this weekend, beginning on Friday at 7 p.m.
