Legionnaires end slide with shutout win

The Swift Current Home Hardware Legionnaires put a five-game losing streak in the rearview mirror with a shutout win in Moose Jaw in their second last game of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League regular season on Wednesday.

Eight different players put their name on the scoresheet as the Legionnaires fired 48 shots on goal during a 5-0 win over the host Moose Jaw Generals.

Jacob Piller led the way with two goals and one assist, followed by three assists from Hunter Lamb. Rin Beny added a goal and an assist and Reed Jacobson chipped in a pair of helpers.

Mkyllan Couture and Hendrik de Klerk also scored, while Owen Ozar and Ty Muench added assists.

Steven Duchscher made 25 saves in the shutout to improve to 13-8-0.

Lamb is now third in league scoring with 63 points in 41 games. Piller is fifth with 61 points in 43 games played.

The Legionnaires improved to 25-13-1-4 in fifth spot, while Moose Jaw dropped to 9-28-3-2 in second last in the SMAAAHL. The Legionnaires will conclude the regular season on Sunday when they visit the league leading Notre Dame Hounds.
