Team Saskatchewan, featuring three members of the Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats, placed fourth at the 2017 National Women’s Under-18 Championship in Quebec City.
Saskatchewan lost 2-0 to British Columbia on Wednesday to open the tournament.
Gull Lake’s Taylor Kirwan scored the opening goal to help lead Saskatchewan to their first win Thursday. The Wildcats’ defenseman scored 4:37 into regulation as Team Saskatchewan defeated Quebec 3-2 to improve to 1-1 at Nationals.
Ryan Fontaine made 33 saves on 35 shots to help Saskatchewan to the win over the host team. Joelle Fiala and Jordan Holmes also scored for Team Saskatchewan.
Saskatchewan improved to 2-1 in the round robin with a 4-0 win over Manitoba Friday.
Kirwan assisted on the eventual game-winning goal by Regina’s Kennedy Bobyck early in the second period.
Saskatchewan lost 6-2 to the Ontario Blue in the semi-final on Saturday evening. They took on British Columbia in the bronze medal game and lost 2-1 in overtime.
Forward Taylor Lind (Shaunavon) and head coach Terry Pavely (Swift Current) were also a part of Team Saskatchewan.
Kirwan was named the tournament’s Most Sportsmanlike Player.
The Wildcats are back in action Wednesday when they visit the Notre Dame Hounds.
