The Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats split a two-game set against the visiting Melville Prairie Fire in the Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League over the weekend.
Saturday, the Wildcats snapped a four-game losing streak with a 5-1 win over the Prairie Fire in their annual Pink Game. The Wildcats took advantage of 10 power play opportunities to score the first three goals on the man-advantage over a 1:05 span in the first period.
Brookyln Colborn, Layne Hryhoriw, and Ryleigh White all scored on the power play before Taylor Lind scored twice at even strength during a three-point outing. Carissa Hogan registered two assists, while Tenelle Lind, Toni Theaker, Trista Labarowski, and Kenedee Klevgaard all added single helpers. Amaya Giraudier made 16 saves on 17 shots in the win.
Jordyn Bear scored the only goal for Melville, while Cheyenne Jamieson took the loss with 21 saves on 26 shots.
Sunday, the Wildcats were unable to complete the weekend sweep in a 5-4 loss. The Wildcats scored the opening goal before allowing five of the next six goals. They scored twice in the third period but were unable to pull even.
Taylor Lind led the Wildcats with a goal and two assists, followed by a goal and an assist from both Sara Kendall and Taylor Kirwan. White, Theaker, and Klevgaard all added assists. Harper Davey took the loss with 20 saves on 25 shots.
Jamieson made 19 saves on 23 shots for the Prairie Fire, who improved to 3-4-0-0. Sadie Rabiej, Brooke Hausermann, Jaydea Guenter-Belte, Jordan Fry, and Kailey Ottenbreit all scored for the visitors.
The Wildcats concluded the weekend with a 4-4-0-1 record. They will return to SFMAAAHL action on Nov. 8 when they visit the Notre Dame Hounds in Wilcox.
