Broncos knock off Pats

The Swift Current Broncos won their second straight game to open the Western Hockey League regular season with a 5-3 victory over the host Regina Pats Wednesday.

The Broncos finished three-for-five on the man-advantage and Glenn Gawdin and Tyler Steenbergen each scored twice to defeat the top ranked team in the country. Steenbergen finished with four points, Aleksi Heponiemi had four assists, and Gawdin had a three-point night and now has four goals to start the season. Defenseman Colby Sissons also scored the eventual game winner midway through the second period.

Matt Bradley scored twice for the Pats and Bryce Platt added a single.

Logan Flodell made 34 saves on 37 shots to earn the victory in his Bronco debut. Max Paddock took the loss after allowing four goals in 33 shots over 58:52.

Swift Current improved to 2-0-0-0, while Regina dropped to 1–2-0-0.

The Broncos will be in Brandon to face the Wheat Kings on Saturday. Their home opener will be October 7 against the Kootenay Ice.
