Starter Dustin Wells was dominant, first baseman Kyle MacDonald provided the power, and the bullpen was untouchable as the Swift Current 57’s defeated the visiting Moose Jaw Miller Express 6-1.
Wells improved to 2-0 with a 0.82 earned run average since joining the team as he held Moose Jaw to five hits, one walk, and one unearned run while striking out four over six innings.
The bullpen trio of Sean Chandler, Trey Taylor, and Layne Downing allowed only one walk and no hits over three scoreless relief innings.
MacDonald provided all the offense the 57’s needed with a three-run 400-foot home run to straightaway centre field in the first inning. He added a solo blast in the fifth inning to close the scoring.
Nick Canas also had a two-hit day, including an RBI double, and stole a base. Riley Campbell had the other RBI during a three-hit outing with a run scored and a stolen base.
The 57’s improved to 16-9 with their second straight win, while the Miller Express dropped to 15-12. The 57’s are on the road Wednesday to visit the Yorkton Cardinals.
