MJT Golf Tour stops in Swift Current

Five Southwest golfers took part in a Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour stop in Swift Current over the long weekend.

Eastend’s Kirk Humphrey came out on top of the Collegiate Mens Division. He shot an 81 on day one for a five-shot lead and then added an 84 on day two at the Chinook Golf Course to win by six shots.

Swift Current’s Griffin Wilson placed fourth in the Juvenile Boys Division. He shot a 76 on day one to sit four shots off the lead. He carded an 80 on day two to place fourth out of 20 golfers, 10 shots back of Colby Friedrich (Battleford) and Josh Nagy (Saskatoon), who tied for the lead. Wilson also won the Juvenile Boys Long Drive contest. Swift Current’s Ethan Fizell tied for 17th with rounds of 86 and 93.

Two Swift Current golfers competed in the Bantam Boys Division, which was won by Winnipeg’s Jordan McDonald (78-76-154). Ryan McCleary shot rounds of 88 and 85 to place 10th in the 19-man field. Hendrik de Klerk finished 15th with rounds of 93 and 88.

The next MJT event in the province will be the MJT/CPGA of Saskatchewan Junior Championship in Saskatoon on July 24-25.
